DefaultGetting Ready To Purchase - Need Advice

I would like to thank those on here who have posted opinions, experiences and reviews on many of the various topics I and many like me are interested in. I would like your opinion on my upcoming purchase of a Can Am Commander 1000. In order to do so I will give you a brief background and an idea as to the style of riding I plan on doing.

I used to have a Can Am 800 Outlander (pictured above) with full skid plates, twist throttle, after market shocks, steering dampener and just about everything you could do to it to make it go fast and handle. My friends and I spent the winter months (Nov - March) in West Virginia riding an average of 120-miles every other Sunday. The type of riding was high-speed trails and gas well right of ways and I mean high-speed, basically an all-out race for an hour or hour and a half and then take a break and catch your breath then hit it again. The reason we only rode in the winter had to do with no dust so you could run hard and tight and other riders who were none existent in the Sanderson Wilderness Area during the winter months (i.e., no head on's in a curve).

We stopped riding about two years ago and all of us sold our ATV's after a series of crashes during our last winter riding season by members of our group causing serious injuries. The average age of our group was 49-years old and averaging >50 mph during these rides was gambling with the statistics of the inevitable.

The issue we are now facing with two years out of the saddle is several of us have decided to purchase side by sides and look at riding more sensibly on the trails and more than just in the winter time. That leads me to the dilemma on what to get.

Below is what were presently looking at and I need your opinions and suggestions as to what to get based on our style of riding.

    2012 Can Am 1000 X
Winch - not sure which one
    Full Can Am Skid Plates
    Tractor Tunes Radio/Speakers
Full Glass windshield with wipers and washer
    Full metal hard top
    Rear Windshield

The type of riding I hope we do is what we used to call "Golmer Riding", (which we never did), where you just cruise, listen to tunes and have a few beers. We even talked about enclosing the cabs on the SSV and putting heaters in them for the winter riding. I will admit I have already been reading about long travel kits but I hope we do not go back down the road of winter racing in the mountains again at our age.

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated, thanks.

hi there, say for what all you want, windshield, winch, tunes - your choice should be a limited commander, plus it has rear screen, best shocks you could want, gps +. 19100 msrp. ready to roll off teh show room floor.

Looks like you've got it pretty much figured out. I would get Factory UTV's skid plates over CAN AM's. CAN AM's aluminum skid plates tend to get hung up on rocks easier than Factoy's UMHV skids + they are way more durable & I beleive they are also cheaper.
