Beware of Ten hour Break-in Rip-off

    Is this 10 hour maintenance work necessary for the warranty of the sxs? The reason I ask is that my dealer said all he was going to do is change the oil. I did it myself and saved $75. Do the front and rear gear box fluids need to be changed? I know they put in break in oil in the motor but the gear cases? The oil was quite black after 300 miles.

    I'm really surprised that is all your dealer was going to do....shame on them....the 10 hour also requires the diffs to be changed (not sure about the tranny?) and setting the valves along with a few other minors checks.

    The maintenance schedule is in your manual for everything.... and the required fluid changes are well within your capabilities at home....heck, invite an ATV crazed bud over and buy the oils and beer....makes for a fun afternoon.

    His reply was, Why waste good shop time on checking the valves when they never change.
    I think I'll call him back anonymously and ask again.

    My neighbor up north just got a 2013 800 XT so now we can bench race.

    Well I bought a new2013xt and it was filthy when I picked it up, I said WTF! He knew I was not happy and he threw in the first service free, I am going to insist they change all fluids including the front and rear diff fluids and greese and clean it.

    My 10 hour included diffs,trans,grease and oil/filter. They need to go by the book to be fair. I have a good supporting dealer luckily...

    Like bottle rocket said, if they agreed to that, then hold them to the whole 10 hr service procedure in the manual.

    I just confirmed it with my Dealer, I got out my operator's guide that came with it and looked through the maintenance section, then I called my eeakerand asked him what this free first service consisted of, I read everything off to him that was in the manual and he said everything that is listed, so that makes me feel 100% better.
