They told me it was a 10 hour break in period and not to drive over 3/4 throttle.
After the dealer I stopped in at Fullerton Sand Sports and picked up my sand wheels and tires. Dave at FSS told me just to take it out and drive it easy for 20 mins and let it cool down, then drive it another 20 mins and let it cool down. And then just drive it like you stole it. Im going with that and I wont be doin any dealer check up lol.

That service is an outright scam!! They will charge you an arm and leg to do it. The main reason is because the manual says it needs a valve adjustment. It was that way on my Outy 800 anyway. I checked the valves all the way up to 2000 miles on my Outy at the suggested "rip you off intervals." They were always within specs. Save your money. I've heard all the way up to 500 bucks on the first service.

You will find that a lot of people will do that type of break in with cool off period. I could have swore I had a large article about it...let me check.

If I recall correctly the schedule says adjust valves after 100 hours. My out 800 says 10, had them checked at 50 hours they were way off, made a huge difference to get them right, it was $135 when I had it done, do all the oils myself.

Everyone here can adjust their own valves, so easy a caveman can do it....don't be intimidated....I'll help all I can with info and links to videos for the Rotax platform....although it will be quad specific until the Commander info starts hitting the airwaves......

getting time to start a good technical support sub-forum IMO.....Lance

Called the service dept. where i bought my 1000xt a couple of weeks ago to set a date for 10 hour service. I told him I had 6 hours on it but only 44 miles. He told me to wait for 25 hours before bringing it in for the first oil changes. He said he does not think the valves should be checked at that time unless there are problems. I asked him if it was wise to run it that long before changing all the oils. He said it would be OK as long as I checked the engine oil often. What are other opinions on changing all the oils after 10 hours?

Had my 10 hour check performed at Halls Motorsports in Mobile Alabama. They had the machine nearly two weeks, claimed they had it on the bench and had to move a higher priority job ahrad of me,so after calling every day for about 4 days, said it was ready,Picked it up at surprizing cost of 420 bucks.Later looked over the work order and no mention of adjusting valves.Removed console and discvered dirt still on the bolt heads ,indicating valves were not checked. If you take in for service, have dealer take a snapshot with his phone while inside.

I guess it depends on your dealer and how honest they are to deal with in the first place. When I decided to buy a Commander last Summer, I had put some money down at a dealer and was suppose to get my 1000 X the first part of August. When I went to pick it up, they had sold it to one of their friends. So I went to another dealer that a friend recommended that was 30 miles from my house. They were not able to get me one until the first of October, they have been great to work with. They have quoted me 175.00 for the 10 hour check up, which includes not only the oil change, valve check, but other things like alignment checks and to ensure that nothing has come loose.

I bought a EPS system from Wicked Built and they installed it for me for $75.00, it is not that I could not do the work myself, but I have other things to do and they can get things done during the week while I am working and that leaves my weekends for riding instead of working on the machine
