I just bought Commander XT 1000 and was told when I bought it that there was a ten hour break-in service required. Well, when I called today to schedule I was told for first time that this was going to cost me over $500 YES THAT IS FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS and I have not even hardly used it. And by the way the flimsy cable that snapped when I used it for the first time to pull me out that is not covered either. Oh not happy with that here is a number to call to BBR or whoever made this overpriced plastic junk and after being on hold for over half an hour I get some B_ _ _ H named Martina that refused to let me talk to someone else and would just say maintenance is a customer's cost and anything with the winch is not there problem. I would never buy another can-am anything after this experience.

Ten hour Break Rip-off

Yes bought it new (2012) from dealer in Florida. I blame both the dealer and can-am but mostly can-am. I just can't believe they can get by with this!!

I really think it's a shame that dealers can charge such a varying rate ...like from $150 up to $650 for the same 10 hour service ....yes, labor and supplies charges vary a little thru the US and Canada, but not as much as peeps have reported

I also believe that some dealers are over charging hourly for their servicemen to "learn the Commander on the owner's dime "....was that possible in your case ya think?

hi,
your getting screwed with a commander 10 hr service by the dealer, it would not matter if you had a polaris, a yamaha, boat, jet ski or atv, that dealer would kill you on any of it, he is screwing you. but you have choices, go to another dealer, OR #1 suggestion... do it yoruself, i do all my own, commander, polaris, jet skis, etc. i can tell you that you can do your own 10 hr service for around 70-110 dollars depending where you by your oils,etc.. mine was 77.50 total.. its an hour and half work and yoru done.
the problem with STEALERSHIPS of ALL brands is rip off on 10 hr service. you buy and keep receipts and do your own, it will by law still be covered under warranty. doing yoru own is very rewarding in learning your machine, and GET THIS!!! YOU KNOW it was done and done right and how and where it was done. I have known dealers to charge for things that NEVER got done..

as to teh winch, i think it is covered by warn, depend swho made it, if it was a rope failure, then they or any atv winch maker would not cover a broken winch line for obvious reasons, buy a new line for 60 and be done with it.

i feel you pain, i have wrote articles on dealership theft, check out mine on pwc today under winterizing yoru waverunner...it happens all over the board, all brands, most dealers. if you find one of the few great dealers stick with him/her/ commanders are the very best side by side...

Have you contacted BRP to tell them about your dealer experience? I had purchased some Sea Doos before from a dealer that was ripping me off on service charges and filed a complaint, BRP looked into the dealers practices and they are no longer a dealer for BRP products.

Ya I know what you mean. when i bought my cammander the dealer didnt charge for the first service ... ya right but he did charge about $350 over the sug. retail price and called it shipping. when I complaned about the cab heat to the can am it self i got the run around they said to talk to a dealer and wanted to give me the closest dealer info to me ... when i told her i allready talked to them because thats were i bought it and wanted to talk to a can am tech she said that I could not do that & i have to go threw the dealer.kind of like beating your head against a brick wall. Acording to the dealer can am dosent see were there is a cab heat problem... my gess is that can am don't want to admit it because they would have to do a recall and that means $$$ ... sucks for the working man that pays there over inflated prices hu. well enuff of my complaning.. hope you have better luck than i have .

I just had my 10hr service done and it was $151.00. That was oil, filter and greasing all suspension fittings and detailing it after service. Something that is
Common practice for them I believe.

For $151 that is all you got was an oil change. I dont think all the dealers are doing the whole service. I love that people pay $15000 for a commander and then complain about maintenance.

Well lets see I paid over $40,000 for my pickup and its first service was less than $100 What I think is happening out there to make the price different from dealer to dealer is that some dealer appreciate their customers more than others. The 10 hour maintenance is not only to make sure that you get any left over particles from the manufacturing but also to make sure that the factory and dealer who assembled the machine did their job correctly. If that was not true then there would be no reason to check clearances and look at things like the belts it would be a fluid change only like my pickup was. I really like my dealer and when people talk to me about my machine I tell them about my experiences with my dealer. Several of my friends have now done business with them because of this, each of us willing to drive 30 extra miles or more to do so when there is one dealer that is within 8 miles of my house. Can you guess which dealer is selling more BRP products?

Where did you have your service done or did you do it yourself? Yes i think there was a learning curve for the technicians but the fact of the matter is that if you do everything that BRP ask you to do in the 10hr service it takes time. This time with todays labor rates gets expensive unfortunately. I am all for customers doing there own work but remember that when there is a warranty issue it becomes that much harder to deal with Can-Am when the dealers have no paper trail to show. There have been several customers that had us torque the heads and adjust the valves but did the rest themselves and that was an option that saved them some money. I dont know if all dealers are willing to do this though.

Did the 10 hr myself... it took me a full day and was everything except the oil and filter change .... there is a lot of labor time involved with it....honestly I wasted some time just gauking at it....like wondering why BRP put the throttle body inside that big black tube ...ROTFL!

Well LBR a whole day? The way things work around my house it would be three days minimum. The first day would be looking at the machine trying to make sure that I know where everything is located and how to get to it. When the neighbors would stop by to see if they could help me. Not with the machine but to drink my beer. The next day would mostly be tracking down which neighbor or relative has my tools that I need to use. Get a little work done and the third day taking it to my dealer and Paying them because it don't have time to get it done before the next big ride

But the beer was good and cold

Dealer is charging me 199.00 for the service. I want valve adjustment, head torque ect on file for warranty purposes. Service guy said I can hang out while its being done as I might learn something. Ill take him up on that. Had to take half the interior out to install the doors so the schooling has already started....

That is worth the money to hang out and watch... I'm assuming that may just be the labor only?.... and if it includes all fluids with filter, cool.... you got a steal of a price either way, then no maintenance intimidation for ya in the future.
