Just thought i would let everyone know i took delivery on my new commander X last week and after only 6 hrs the engine has locked up to the point the starter wont even turn it over.
Need more info

Take it back to the dealer.....you do get a 6month warranty from the factory, and an addtional 6months from BRP
had you checked the oil?
was there oil smoke out the exhaust?
was there any engine/bearing noise?

The OP did try to response, however, he responded to the notification e mail. Here is what his response was:

Full of oil and there were no warning signs. I was riding when the engine started making a rattling noise in the top side like a loose valve or wrist pin on the piston. Tried to make it home about 1/2 mile when it locked up, sliding the rear tires. Taking it to the dealer first thing Monday.

The rotax is the one thing I've always counted on as being bullet proof. I'm really interested on what caused it. The 1000 is a new engine for them kinda. I hope this is the only one we hear about! I do hope this is trolling, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt. These engines have all kinds of fail safe nannies, so I would think they would've kicked in before mechanical failure.

Been a long time abuser of the rotax engine (Aprilia rider) and I can not say one thing bad about the Rotax. I have used and abused these motors when they were designed for Aprilia. This was one of the main features that made my decision to put money down in june when they were announced.

I can always see a possible manufacture defect or error with that one engine or assembly, but I dont think you will have any problem getting it fixed. Maybe just time to get the parts. Rotax is a solid engine and always has been, one thing I am not worried about with the commander.

Mine has a lot of diff or tranny noise in it also, but not much compared to a 4 speed gravel crusher trany in a 70 chevell. Also while i'm thinking of it my engine also tries to kill in a slide especially on the snow pack so if any one gets it figured out let us no because it can put a drop of:poop:in your shorts pretty fast.

Not saying you don't have diff noise Wayne, but these Rotax setups make that whinning sound that varies with the vehicle speed.....its the dry clutch / belt setup, and prolly is what your pointing a finger at......Lance
