Anyone have any experience with the Visco-Lok yet? Have heard reports of people stating that it takes too long to engage. Anyone experience this?

Ok today I had kinda had an issue with the Visco lok.... I was coming up and over a small dune and had to come to an aburpt stop some guy in a Rhintax...name withheld to protect the culprit...was not on all 4's...:furious:..
Well I had high centered the Commander the back 2 and the right front would turn, but front drivers never did engage...is this common for the visco lok?

Once I was able to get over being high centered and came down the hill all 4 wheels were digging

What is normal with that whole scenerio is that Rhintax flopped over on it's side.....he loves doing that manuever......takes lots of practice to perfect it.....so I'm told......Lance

I have video of my X wth rt front spinning and left barely rocking.Showed it to dealer he called brp reps and they said its supposed to turn about 7 times before engaging.I'm really stuck after that many times.Or if you rev up and it catches, then you launch

I am still waiting for my X in january, and this will be my first Can Am.

I keep reading about the QUICK LOCK version in the ATVs.

Is this the same size differential ( center chunk ) as the commander that can be swaped out to fix the problem ?

Or is it all computer controled systems that ( HOPEFULLY ) a vender will design a programmer to engage quicker?

Or are we STUCK with this system ?

Just my oppinion is > would be nice to stay same in high range so will steer and drift better at high speed........ But when in low range it would switch to the QUICK LOCK system ??

And i say this without any experience on the commander YET. Just from the oppinions and others experience that i have read about .

Any ideas??

Just found a thread on ( Can-Am Commander Forum ) about the visco-lock system.
ALOT OF GOOD INFO
A guy says the QE dif is a plug and play swap.
He has already swaped his and works great,.
They list the part number and say cost is around 500$

It also explains REALLY GOOD how the system works.

Saw ODY over there so he already knows also ha ha
is there a chance you can post the direct link to the thread you are referencing? I must be dumb, and I much prefer Mike's site, but I cannot fine it using the site search over there. I want to educate myself as best I can about this new machine. Thank you in advance!!

This is also what I found out

"the Qe caryer wil fit in the commander housing and it works great.
Are you saying you have a Commander fitted with a Visco Lock QE front dif?
Yes I do"

this also is the part # I found...70500822
I will also be having LBR check into this more, I have had a few instances where I was only 3 wheeled and it sucks...

Very interesting. i will definitely look into it. I guess I may miss the variable front diff lock on the Teryx, it is pretty trick for sure.

One guy took a QE out of a Can Am quad and Installed it in his Commander. Says it works great. He did indicate it made it steer harder on asphalt (to be expected) however really did not notice much of a steering difference on the trail. He did like the quicker engaugement over the standard diff in the Commander.

Ya I called the dealership that I thought might of put it in for him. What they told me was that there would be no warranty for the install or parts which I can understand, and he (commander owner) has not had it installed long enough to know if there would be any other issues.
They also said that you would not want to run it in 4x4 all the time, which I don't do anyway, (we run mainly sand) I only hit the switch when I think I will need 4x4.
cost of the new QE part # 705400822 is $595.94 thru this dealer
