Okay, I have a question if you look at most of the pictures I have seen of the front of the roll cage you will see a built in grab handle. On the production Commander that space where your fingers go through the handle is filled with a steel plate. Do you think I should cut it out so you can use the grab handle? It would be real easy to remove (only a couple of tabs) and I think with a little touch-up paint would make things all good. Cut it out or keep it covered??? [email protected]

Actually I think that was added not for support, but to restrict drivers and passengers from grabbing it in a roll-over situation. I think you are safe to remove it, however, you may want to talk to a fab shop as well.

I suspect during the test rides the Reps noticed a lot of the passengers were using the cage support as a grab handle during theie ride. They probably viewed it as a safety hazard and a liabilty for them. So they put the plates in to keep hands out.

I talked to a factory rep today at the Can Am booth here in Sparks (They came over from the SSS for our Street Vibrations event). Thats exactly what she told me. That during their test rides in Canada, people were using the roll cage support for a hand hold which could be dangerous in the "unlikely" event of a rollover. She seemed concerned that some people may simply knock out the insert ... which IMO looks like it is designed to meet up with a sawsall about 20 munutes after taking delivery.

The last Mustang I owned/road raced I voided the warranty through mods before the warranty ever expired. Just something you have to feel comfortable about and risk I guess.
However, the Commander I drove this morning had some nice padded nylon grab handles dangling from the roll cage. These anchored by velcro around the 2" cage and would seem to be a "safer" option. These were obviously aftermarket but I did not get any information or pics of them.

I actually have those on my Teryx...mine are made by QuadGear. You can find them all over the web, I know Amazon has them, Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc.

No problem at all...I really like them and for what they cost, their build quality is excellent!
