So I have been going back and forth between two video cameras for use on our rides. I found two that interest me, the GoPro HD Helmet HERO and the EPIC HD. After looking around on the net, I think I am going to go with the GoPro, it appears to have some better mounting options and quite frankly I have heard and read nothing but great things about it. In addition, it looks as though the video from the GoPro is a little more stable and crisp. With that said, look for some riding videos after our Thanksgiving trip!

Mike...

if you haven't already made the purchase.... highly consider the Contour HD...

They are what the vast majority of the high speed low drag folks go with for amazing good HD video...

check it out here...

Contour - GPS Video Camera and HD Helmet Camera

I have had them for a couple of years... the new HD for a year...nothing comes close in my book..ton of accessories and mounting options...

Thanks I will take a look at it, never hear of it so thanks for throwing another option out there for me! Are all the mounts purchased separately or does it come with some of them?

Comes with a Goggle mount (attaches to your goggles...good for Skiing, and use with dirt bike helmet etc..) and a very cool velcro attachment...

so the downside is it does not have the 1/4 screw female on the unit itself..but you can get the 1/4 slide on attachment for $20.. or get the Waterproof case $30 that also has the 1/4 screw on it too...hope that makes sense.

I think the quality is WAY better than the GoPro HD...much smaller package...battery life is 4 continuous hours and uses mini SD cards.. they carry them at REI if you have a membership there (almost better if you don't cause they give you 20% off your first purchase when you sign up)

Thanks Michael, it does look like a nice unit and I am liking that google mount, not to mention I am looking at a 16gb micro SD card right now that needs a new home. Wonder if I would be better off getting the ContourHD or the ContourGPS if I went the Contour route?

The picture quality on the ContourHD does look nice.

Keep up the good info.
A Vid Cam is on my list of things to buy. Hey does this thing have sound?
Edit: Never Mind lol.
Its actually in stereo and the sound quality is surprising good..again the reviews are extremely strong...I HIGHLY recommend the contour, this is my third action HD camera.. I also have a HD Video camera I will use in the cockpit mounted on a ram ball. see pic below,

I have a Sportzshot Helmet Cam that I bought a few years back to video my motorcycle rides. The only drawback is that you have to connect it to an existing video recorder. I am looking at the Go Pro though.

I decided to upgrade from my sportzhot to a GoPro HD. I looked at the Countour but I felt that the GoPro was more adaptable to different situations. I will be trying it out this weekend in Maine when I FINALLY get to pick my X up !!!!!

I will post a couple of video when I get back from the North Country.

I broke down and bought a GoPro HD and it in my opinion a GREAT Camera. I mounted it on the back of the roll cage so it gets a full view of the cockpit and the terrain.

Check out the video I posted on my YouTube Channel:
