After our trip to glamis for a shake down we pulled our new XT in the shop for a complete make-over, SDR style.

Since this is my personal car I am super exctited to see what we can come up with when we dont have any constraints!

First up was to tear the beast down. Trust me when I tell you that you do not want to have to take the plastics off this thing.

And Im talking about a lot of plastic. We stripped off all the main parts and only left the a few parts that arent in the way. Unlike the RZR, Teryx, Rhino and other models. the can am uses rivets to hold most of the parts in place. plus there is a ton of fastners hidden all over under the dash and hood that are always fun to find and figure out how to get to.

Plans for the build are:

2 Seat bed delete cage
Full doors w/ side nets
Front bumper
+4 Long Travel

Full body paint
SSV Audio System
Rigid 50" LED Light Bar
HID in all four stock headlights
Crow 5pt. SFI Belts
Crow Arm Restraints
RacerX Comm system with helmets

Muzzy Race Exhaust
Digitune Programmer
Dalton Clutch
Intake/ Dyno work

Fullerton Sand Sports Special Cut STU Blaster Rear Tires
Fullerton Sand Sports Full Buff Fronts
OMF Outlaw 2 Beadlock wheels

And whatever else we come up with as we go along....

The point of the build is to build the ultimate duner with these parameters

Safety.
Minimize adding Wieght
Comfort
and some style thrown in so she looks good!

We plan to bring the car out for the first time Thanksgiving weekend for some shock tuning and fun!

Here are a few pics from after we tore it down. We should be getting the cage going here soon as I just got the cage bungs back from my machinist.

Sounds excellent Tim, excited to see the finished product!

In the areas where there were rivets I imaging you just drilled them out. Will you be re-installing rivets or do you have plans for some sort of other fastener?

I was thinking he was refering to those Pop-out plastic rivets like on the Raptor plastic. Will be interesting to see. I would think the plastic is removable and replaceable. Ive got my Commander in in my trailer now and its raining like there is no tommorrow right now. Im not goin out to check hehe.

No, they are actual aluminum rivets. We had to drill them out. They hold the bottom runners and the center section of the hood along with some other parts.

To be fair, you dont really need to remove all the plastics to work on the car, everything is pretty easy to get to with them on the car. We removed them so we didnt have to worry about welding on the car and so they could get painted.

We will probably use either new rivets or tek screws when we put it back together.
