I've always just added oil until it started coming out of the fill hole. I let it set for a bit until the oils stops before I put the plug back in.

Can't remember exactly how far below the fill plug it is suppose to be...3/8"-1/2"?....but whatever the measurement is (it's in your manual)....

I took a piece of wire and bent a 3/4" long 90* bend on the tip of it, then started to fill the rear end up with fluid, occasionally checking the level with that wire tip....when the oil started to show on the wire, I snipped that much wire off ....when the wire was as long as the manual stated measurement below the fill hole, plug in.....done.....Lance
