Does anyone know if the X comes pre-wired for a winch? I thought I read somewhere that they were. Anyone know for sure. If I remember what I read, it sounds like adding a winch to any Commander is a plug and play kinda thing. Buy the winch kit and your good to go???

On the XT I looked at, the winch was wired to the contactor/relay mounted on the passenger side front under the hood near the radiator. Then short pigtails to the winch. If the X is prewired up to and includes the contactor/relay that would be cool, then you could run whatever winch you wanted (depending on the mounting) by just running short cables to your winch. If I remember right the cables were connected on studs with nuts. We'll see??

Can any of ya'll that have received their X take a look and comment on what exactly the X comes with as far as the winch prewiring. Is it prewired to the dash so all you have to do is add the toggle there etc... Thanks

SDR could you chime in, sounds like ya'll have one all apart.

winch wiring

just put a winch on my x last night the one in the craddle that you move from the front to the back .all you have to do is knock the plate out and snap the switch in and it plugs in to the wiring harness right there.comes with the wiring harness zip ties to the frame all color coded wires it is really simple to install .

I installed the Warn XT40 on my X. That's the same winch that comes standard on the XT models. I did not find any pre wired anything on mine. Maybe I missed it, but my winch came with everything I needed to hook it up, with the exception of the Can am winch plate.

ok...just went and looked...found one pigtail with four wires coming out...3 females..light blue, black and green and one black wire with loop connector... it this for the winch controller? or to the relay? ....also Im assuming I have to still get the wiring back to the battery...right?... sorry for the amount of questions.. I was planning to do what Xelvic did and just route it all.. but if its all there (including relay?) that would be awesome..

I found a pigtail for a plugin behind our dash today, but didn't think to get the wire colors....assumed it was for the winch controller....think the controls for winch may go in the glovebox in the lower cubby below tool kit?.....Lance

bmopar, welcome to the site. I thought this thread died awhile back. Sounds like you bring good news on this matter. Could you go into a little more detail and possably some pics on your install? Thanks for the info.

winch

Thanks, Hillbilly. I will post pics later today. When they say it is pre-wired, I think they are talking about the switch for the dash and the hand controll that mounts in the glove box. That is ALL the wiring there period for the winch.

2 plugs - 1 green female for the dash switch to which the opposite is the male. 1 female plug 3 hole it is black. You will have to drill a hole in the glove box to put plugin in for the hand control to plug into. If you look close, you can see where you need to drill in the glove box. The plugin has 3 long prongs. You need a 3 prong male - female plug that plugs into that. Why they did it this way, I have no idea. You will need to make sure you get 3 long plugs pluged into female end correct. There are letters on the pulg, for example green goes d ,black to e and white is f. JUST AN EXAMPLE I can't remember the exact letters. Then that plugs into the female that is prewired. Both plugs are ziptied to frame behind the dash.

Sounds worse than it is and is hard to type instructions. It really isn't that bad to do. As I said, I will post pictures later today. I have the winch that goes from the front to the back.

OK ya'll, just got done ordering my winch mounting plate from extreme metal products. Should be here next week. Also, removed my Warn RT30 and all wiring etc. from my Teryx. I'm going to use this on my Commander. I get where the wired female plug goes in the glove box. Is there a pigtail behind there to plug into? (ie.. red, black & green wires on the Warn female plug that mounts there). I'm not going to use the Can-am dash mounted toggle switch, just the Warn (wired) hand held with the male part of the plug. Where did ya'll mount your contactor/relay? How much of the plastic did you have to remove to do the install? Just trying to put together a plan of attack. haha Any help, suggestions or pics would be great. Thanks in advance ya'll.

Personally I would Install the dash switch and the remote. Been there done that. I originally only had the remote on my Woodsbuggy. When I needed it I had to fumble around to get it , unwind it, rewind it, put it back etc. The next season I added the switch on the dash and it's so much more faster and convieniant. The remote is good for when your by yourself to rewind the rope, however there is usally someone with me.
